Chapter 10
Chapter 10
Sleep is the First Productivity
Students were all different. Some progressed quickly, some slowly. Some were smart, some couldn't even understand literature. Of course, some were lazy, dragging out simple tasks for weeks.
Shuangyun... was smart and hardworking.
He actually hadn't expected her to stay up all night debugging the model like him, and hadn't expected her to produce some preliminary results so quickly.
"Landon, Landon, can you hear us?" On the screen, a student called Cheng Lang's name.
Cheng Lang said sorry, please continue.
After listening to the students' reports, it was already 1:30 PM. The last few minutes were usually casual chat. Students chattered about recent events. Cheng Lang usually didn't participate much, but near the end of the meeting, he suddenly said:
"What do you think of me?"
The students quieted down.
Cheng Lang said again, "As a supervisor."
The students became even quieter.
Cheng Lang said, "Never mind. Have a good weekend."
He said this and went offline.
But he quickly received a message from a student on Teams. A Chinese girl sent him: "Teacher Cheng, you're a very good teacher. Serious and responsible, with a great attitude."
Cheng Lang replied thank you. "What are the shortcomings?"
The "typing" indicator in the dialog box flashed for a long time. Cheng Lang saw the message: "It would be even better if you could praise us more! 😊😊😊"
Cheng Lang's gaze moved to a blank area on the side of the screen and began recalling his conversation with Shuangyun.
In his heart, he actually appreciated Shuangyun, but he indeed hadn't said a single word of it.
Of course, he also didn't seem to have praised any of his students.
Wasn't being hardworking and serious supposed to be normal? If you were also smart, that was even more innate and effortless.
As a teacher, did he need to give praise? But if the student's progress hadn't reached his expectations at all, he couldn't say sincere praise.
But Shuangyun...
Cheng Lang sat quietly at his computer for a while, then got up to change clothes and go out.
Friday afternoon, the company was mostly empty. Most people were working from home. Cheng Lang took the elevator to the office and unexpectedly saw Shuangyun again.
She was wearing headphones, looking at something on her computer.
Cheng Lang's steps slowed, but he didn't walk toward her.
He went into his office, then came out with a cup to go to the break room. Shuangyun was still focused on something, completely not noticing him.
Did something go wrong with this morning's model?
Cheng Lang thought while filling his water.
The cup filled, he walked out of the break room and saw Shuangyun's brows furrowed.
His steps passed by, then Cheng Lang turned back to Shuangyun's desk.
She was wearing headphones, watching Cheng Lang's public lecture recording.
It was about watershed models.
Only then did Shuangyun notice Cheng Lang's arrival. She took off her headphones.
"What are you doing here?"
"What are you doing here," Cheng Lang set his water cup on her desk, "didn't I tell you to take a sick day?"
"My internet at home is broken, so I came to the office." As Shuangyun spoke, she paused the video.
"Are you interested in this?" Cheng Lang asked.
Shuangyun looked at him. Cheng Lang was standing, she was sitting.
The slight upward angle naturally gave him a sense of authority.
"I'm watching the part where you explain adjusting the algorithm. I don't understand that part very well."
Cheng Lang looked at Shuangyun. She'd stayed up all night debugging the model like him, and now she was in the office in the afternoon studying his algorithm.
Cheng Lang was quiet for a moment, then took out his phone and checked his calendar. He said, "Next Friday I have a class at the university, also covering this part. If you're interested, you can come listen."
As he spoke, he sent the class time and address to Shuangyun, then quickly left.
Shuangyun smiled silently. Her internet at home wasn't broken at all. She was going to watch videos to study anyway, so why not do it in the office? She was now even more certain that Cheng Lang also liked smart people. To catch smart people, you naturally had to use smart methods. Just showing beauty wouldn't work on him.
The afternoon sun slanted into the office. Shuangyun leaned back in her chair, somewhat sleepy.
Cheng Lang was still lecturing in her headphones when a hand suddenly appeared in her peripheral vision.
Shuangyun took off her headphones again.
Cheng Lang placed a cup of coffee on her desk.
"Bought from the coffee shop downstairs. Not freeze-dried coffee."
After saying this, he turned and went into his office.
